Sting and wife Trudie Styler: Yoga and an active sex life keeps us fit
January 14th, 2011 | Author: Marne
-
Rocker Sting and Trudie Styler, his wife of 18 years, maintain their
fit, youthful physiques by doing yoga every day and having an active
sex life.
TRUDIE RELEASES WEIGHT-LOSS YOGA VIDEO
Styler, 57, who released a yoga exercise DVD in 2009, is launching
another workout video called Weight Loss Yoga in March 2011.
Both she and Sting, 59, have been doing yoga for 20 years, crediting
their daily workouts with a happier marriage and an increased feeling
of well-being in all areas of their lives.
Despite their disciplined approach to exercise, Styler and Sting
indulge their joie de vivre. "We're epicureans; we believe in the good
life," Sting tells the February 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar.
Styler adds, "Eating's pretty major; we have feasts at our house."
`WE LOVE TAWDRY SEX'
Another major component of their happy marriage is plenty of "tawdry"
sex.
"I don't think pedestrian sex is very interesting," says Sting. "I like
the theater of sex. I like to look good. I like her to dress up. I like
to dress her up."
Trudie and Styler, who have been together for almost 30 years, have
raised six children together and weathered ups and downs in both their
personal and professional lives.
Through it all, they've managed to stay in love despite the pitfalls of
fame, fortune and temptation. So what's their secret?
"We treat every day as it comes," Sting explains. "Relationships aren't
easy, and I don't think they're particularly natural, but we're lucky
because we actually like each other.
"We love each other-that's a given-but Trudie lights my world up when
she comes into a room. I don't take her for granted."
Communication is also key. "It's important to have frank discussions
about what the other wants," Styler says. "To be in a relationship that
is like a little lifetime, that's a challenge."
`I DO YOGA 45-90 MINUTES EVERY DAY'
And what's Trudie's secret for her youthful good looks and fat-free
physique? In addition to regular Botox and facial filler injections,
she does yoga, Pilates, cardio and ballet.
"I practice yoga for 45 minutes to an hour-and-a-half every day,
wherever I am," says Styler.
"Yoga is the best holistic workout and body toner there is. It sorts
out a chaotic mind and calms the body - it is how I de-stress, or stop
myself getting stressed in the first place."
`YOGA HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE IN EVERY WAY'
Similarly, Sting is a yoga devotee, saying it has helped him stay fit
physically and balanced mentally.
"Yoga has enriched my life by allowing me to improve physically; which
is very inspiring, especially as you get older. I tour an awful lot,
and being on the road is not always easy.
Yoga is a great way to offset the downsides of touring by bringing
much-needed peace and sanity into what can be a hectic life. Like
music, yoga is a journey one that is long enough so you keep
developing, and keep learning. I don't see an end to it."
Trudie doesn't believe in dieting, but makes an effort to eat well. "I
eat organic food as much as possible, but I'm not militant about it,"
she says. "If I'm a guest in someone's house or in a restaurant, I eat
whatever is on offer.
"But I do have to eat regularly during the day because otherwise my
blood glucose levels drop and I start to feel faint and become
hypoglycemic. I usually have healthy snacks on me, just in case I've
been too busy running around to eat properly."
Styler's new fitness video, Weight Loss Yoga, comes out in March.

I have always heard that Sting did yoga to stay in shape...there have
been articles about him doing yoga on planes...I remember this one
story about him sitting upside down in his seat in first class. I
thought that was funny...then he got busted by saying that he can have
sex for hours because he does yoga. He later recanted that saying it
was an exaggeration. I don't want to do anything for hours, including
sex. I love that he and his wife are still having fun in the sack
after 18 years of marriage.

Michelle Williams to Launch Yoga Center
January 12th, 2011 | Author: Marne
Actress Michelle Williams is all set to launch a yoga centre for single
mothers.
-
The "Brokeback Mountain" star, who has been raising her five-year-old
daughter Matilda as a single mother since her ex-boyfriend, actor Heath
Ledger, died of an accidental overdose in 2008, credits yoga to help
cope with the tragedy.
Williams said the inner peace she found through the exercise inspired
her to co-found "The Yoga for Single Moms Project", which is now
launching a pilot programme in Boston, reports dailystar .
"Yoga gave me relief like nothing else. It made be a better person and
a better mother. I could come back to my daughter anew. And then I
started to think about how expensive it is to get a babysitter to take
a yoga class, which makes it out of reach for so many women," she said.
"The idea behind the programme is that if you can clear the time, we do
the rest. It provides childcare while the mum is in the yoga class, and
it's all free," she added.

Yoga in the Snow? Ooooooo I like a good Yoga Dare.
December 31st, 2010 | Author: Marne
-
He's a mountaineer and a yoga instructor and claims to have performed
yoga bare-bodied in Ladakh's snow-clad mountains at an altitude of over
14,000 ft. And Ajai Kumar Bajpayee has now dared renowned yoga guru
Baba Ramdev to match his feat.
Bajpayee, 32, a liaison officer with the Indian Mountaineering
Foundation (IMF) and a native of Shareefabad in Barabanki district, has
performed a 30-minute yoga session at the popular Kun mountaineering
destination in Ladakh. He now wants Ramdev to showcase his yoga skills
before the public in the same manner.
"It's an open challenge to him from my side. Let there be a yoga
competition between us. Both of us will have to perform yoga
bare-bodied in bone-chilling conditions or similar to that of those
prevailing in Ladakh," Bajpayee told us on phone from Barabanki, some
35 km from Lucknow.
Bajpayee, however, said Ramdev should take up his challenge in a
sporting spirit.
"I respect Babaji (Ramdev) a lot. Undoubtedly, Babaji has done a lot in
promoting yoga not only in the country but in different parts of the
globe. It's not that I am proud of myself and want others to feel low.
The objective behind such a challenge is to showcase the incredible
tasks that could be achieved through yoga.
I believe Babaji will accept my challenge and people will get an
opportunity to witness the unusual tasks and challenges that could come
to the fore in the competition between us. I have written a letter to
Baba Ramdev in this regard. Response from his side is awaited," said
Bajpayee, who has also rendered his services as a yoga instructor
in China and Thailand.
Bajpayee performed the 30-minute yoga session in October last year,
when he was a part of a mountaineering expedition that had people
from Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
"As I am a qualified mountaineering instructor, I am several times
asked by the IMF that closely works with the ministries of sports,
home, defence and tourism, to accompany members of expedition groups
for mountaineering and trekking and other adventure sports. One of the
members of the expedition filmed me performing the yoga acts," said
Bajpayee, who first enrolled for training in mountaineering in 1999 at
an institute in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
"After I enrolled myself for the pre-basic course, also called as
adventure course, my passion for mountaineering grew day by day. Later,
I opted for an advanced course in mountaineering from the Himalaya
Mountaineering Institute, also in Uttarakhand," recalled Bajpayee.
"As far as yoga is concerned, I am doing it from my childhood days.
But, to become a yoga instructor, I underwent a training programme in
1995 from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Thiruvananthapuram."
Asked what inspired him to perform yoga bare-bodied in freezing
conditions, Bajpayee said: "You can say yoga and mountaineering have
always been a passion for me. I always thought of doing different
things in the two streams so that I can stand apart from others.

Hummmmmm...I am sensing a bit of ego from these two fellows. If they
want to do yoga in the bare on the top of the mountain, great, but I do
think it shows their human side. Don't you? The whole point of doing
yoga is to be able to sit in mediation after as the picture above
describes. So after they do their 30 minute challenge in the snow do
they quickly afterwards put on a some warm clothes and sip some hot
tea, or do they sit in meditation? Either way, what an incredible
feat. I'll stick to my warm classes where my muscles will stretch and
bend as I like them to.

Ever Seen a Dog Do Scorpion Pose? Weird.
December 29th, 2010 | Author: Marne
- When people ask how the animals in the Yoga Dogs
calendars twist their furry bodies into yoga poses, Alejandra
Diaz-Berrio likes to say, "Training."
"Photoshop," is how her husband, Dan Borris, a professional
photographer in San Antonio, more accurately explains how squirming
puppies are transformed into serene yogis.
In the 2011 calendars Yoga Puppies and Yoga Kittens (both $13.99 at
retailers and yogadogz), an orange tabby named Skittles
demonstrates a side-reclining leg lift, while a gray kitten named Randy
gracefully extends a leg in a tiger pose variation. Sammy, a white,
floppy-eared puppy, masterfully executes a one-legged paw stand.
"I've never seen anybody look at one and not say, `Oh, my God, that is
so great,'" says Borris, who shoots and Photoshops the images. "It has
a good vibe. It's just fun and funny and sweet. And I think they're
believable."
Borris, 54, and Diaz-Berrio, 42, came out with the first Yoga Dogs
calendar in 2009. It became a best-seller, so for 2010 they created
Yoga Dogs and Yoga Cats, also best-sellers.
The concept has evolved into a veritable empire with a slew of
licensing deals for Yoga Dogs posters, coasters, plush dolls, mouse
pads and other merchandise. Borris has sold calendars to buyers
from New Braunfels to New Caledonia, and calendars will be published as
far as Russia and Korea in 2012.
The idea of Yoga Dogs hit Borris when a writer friend told him that her
dog liked to lick and sniff her as she did yoga poses, and she thought
it would be fun to create a book about it.
"A light bulb went off in my head, and I said, `Wouldn't it be funnier
if he was actually doing yoga?'" Borris says.
It was a departure from his usual work, to say the least. Borris
exhibits his fine-art photography in galleries, and he's shot everyone
from Shakira to Colin Powell for clients such as Rolling Stone and
the New York Times Magazine.
But the idea of creating images of dogs doing yoga was irresistible, so
about five years ago, Borris shot and digitally altered photos of their
dog, Mela, a yellow Lab
golden retriever mix. The results were "hysterical," he says.
Then they recruited friends' and neighbors' dogs for photos, as well as
strangers' dogs they'd see on the street.
"Originally we sketched it all out, because, yes, we both do yoga.
Alejandra is actually a certified Kundalini teacher," Borris says. "We
made all these plans looking through yoga reference books and then, you
know, dogs are dogs, and they have their own ideas, and so it all just
went to hell in a handbasket."
So they revised the process. Diaz-Berrio plays with the animals, plying
them with toys and treats, while Borris shoots as many as 100 photos
with his Canon 5D.
The animals' natural positions in photos almost always dictate the
poses, some anatomically impossible, they will model in the calendar.

Ok. I have to just say I think this is a little weird. I love to see
my pets Sammy and Gigi doing downward dog stretch in the morning. They
truly are masters at it and they get such joy from the stretch. I am
constantly amazed at how flexible my dogs are, when they twist and turn
to clean or scratch themselves. However, photo shopping your pets into
scorpion pose, is a little unnatural and strange, don't you think? I
think these people have too much time on their hands.
I absolutely like the fundraising aspect to help animals however, I
would buy the calendar for that purpose. What do you think?

6 Year Old is the Youngest Yoga Teacher
December 28th, 2010 | Author: Marne
¿¿ - Allahabad: At just six, Shruti Pandey is the youngest
yoga trainer in the world. The flexible youngster has been teaching
adults at an ashram, in Northern India, for the last two years.
Her trainer, Hari Chetan, 67, set up the ashram 35 years ago and as
soon as little Shruti became one of his students, as a tiny four-year
old, he spotted her talents.
Now she begins her classes at 5.30 every morning, at Brahmanand
Saraswati Dham, in the Jhunsi town, dressed in white leggings and a red
t-shirt surrounded by 30 eager pupils ranging from businessmen,
teachers, housewives to pensioners.
Shruti said, "It feels good when people follow my instructions, I feel
like a real teacher. I got interested in yoga after watching my brother
do it. I tried picking it up myself but it was too difficult. So I
asked my parents to send me to yoga classes."
Her brother, Harsh Kumar, now 11-year-old, made the Limca Book of
Records at the tender age of five by learning all 84 yoga positions but
he's never been interested in being a teacher like his sister.
Hari, who Shruti also calls her grandfather, thinks she's a miracle.
"She's a fast learner and a perfectionist. She grasps techniques
quickly unlike kids her own age, who get bored with something as
patience consuming as yoga," said Hari.
"Within just six months of her training, she surprised everyone by
doing the toughest positions with ease and perfection. She's a
natural."
Shruti can manage some of yoga's most challenging positions. She can
easily hold her entire body on the strength of her little arms and hang
her legs right over her head backwards.
One of Shruti's fans, 90-year-old Swami Bhanu, a retired teacher, said,
"She tries to provide an alternative position for the complicated ones
that are difficult for an older person like me to do. She's very
patient."

Annoying things Yoga Instructors Do...like hitting on you.
December 27th, 2010 | Author: Marne
-
Triangle Pose
Yoga instructors are nothing if not mellow, gentle, accepting people. A
good one will make sure you know it's all about your own journey in
class, that there is no competition or judgements, etc. But even they
have things that annoy them during class. Want to be teacher's pet?
Don't do these things, as reported in Whole Living magazine.
* Bring a cell phone to class
* Bring a coffee (sort of defies the purpose of yoga)
* Show up late
* Chew gum
* Be stinky (shower before class!)
* Leave early (unless you have discussed it with the instructor
beforehand)
* Check out your classmates
* Talk
* Fail to share important information like pregnancy that will affect
your practice
* Four words: Loose shorts, no underwear (eewwwwwww).
Amen to all of the above ... and let me just add these yoga student pet
peeves:
* Boring classes: If you can see that we've all mastered the warrior
series, figure out something else for us to try next week.
* Making references to anyone's age, shape or size: Even if
complimentary, it sort of goes against the whole welcoming,
non-jock atmosphere of yoga. Suggest adaptations to the class at
large, don't say "Because you're older/pregnant/bigger, you'll want
to ..."
* Hitting on students: I'm looking at you, Rodney Yee.
And as for fellow yoga students, about the only pet peeve I can add is:
Don't show off. If you've been practicing a long time and are really
bendy, that's great ... seeing someone who's not actually teaching
attempt to master the more challenging poses is cool. But "warming up"
before class with a headstand and a few backbends? Not so much.
This article was posted by Amy Kuras, go here for more of the article.

ments.
I think this article is clever and funny. Amy hits it on the head with
what annoys any yoga instructor. Another one that I find annoying is
when people show up more than 30 minutes late (please, really?). I
once had a woman come to class and was over 30 minutes late. We were
in the middle of an intense bridge pose (long hold, lots of deep
breathing) and she was doing Warrior I and a bunch of standing poses.
I had never experienced this situation before and was totally
dumbfounded. I get where she was coming from (I guess she wanted to
warm up) but when I walked over and said "hello, I'm Marne, I'm the
instructor. Do you have any injuries that I should know about?" She
went into a long explanation of how she had a brain tumor but she knew
what she was doing...So she's doing Warrior I while she's explaining
this to me (keep in mind the class is still holding bridge pose and
doing their deep breathing, their thighs are absolutely burning at this
point)...and I'm saying, "ok, stop, stop. what are you doing?" Her
response, "Hey, I'm on the same path you are..." I just looked at her
and I said, "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave because I
can't be responsible for you if you're not going to follow along with
the class or heed my instruction." She ended up leaving after about 20
minutes. Sometimes as a yoga instructor you have to think about things
like liability (she came into the class late, I'd never met her
before...did she sign a waiver? Did she have approval from her doctor
to be doing yoga in the first place with her illness?). These are
things you want to discuss with your teacher before the class starts,
not while you're in the middle of the class. As a teacher your #1
responsibility is the safety of your students and what's best for them.
It was not an ideal situation for her to come so late to a yoga class
and (very clearly) not have enough experience to deal with such
a traumatic illness or bodily issue. So although it may seem like I
was being rude or insensitive in this case, it was the right thing to
do for that person.
And, thank you Amy! Male teachers (and I'm sure some female ones!)
stop hitting on your students! It's annoying and doesn't make the
student feel safe in the class. I have stopped going to many classes
where men are teaching because of overt sexual adjustments. Please!
We're not here to get it on, we're here to find ourselves, experience
peace, hopefully become a little more enlightened...not to get groped.
Please comment and share. How many of you out there have had an
experience like this you'd like to share?

Madonna Rules! Check out her yoga tricks in an airplane aisle.
December 21st, 2010 | Author: Marne
-
`Queen of Pop' Madonna enraged her first class co-passengers when she
was let off their snow-stranded plane two hours before the others and
added to the trouble when she started doing yoga in the aisles.
Passengers on board a flight from New York became stranded on the
snow-blanketed tarmac of Heathrow airport over the weekend, and were
furious when the Vogue hitmaker was allowed off the plane two hours
before everyone else, reported Daily Mail online.
As blizzards brought UK's transport system to a near standstill,
Madonna and her entourage were whisked away by bus to the terminal
before everyone else.
But not before she handed out some impromptu in-flight entertainment.
"It was bad enough having to wait, but then she started doing her yoga
in the aisles. After about an hour, a bus came along and took her and
her party of about 15 off the plane. The rest of us all had to wait for
another two hours," said a passenger on the plane.
The 52-year-old flew in from New York so that she could spend Christmas
with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie and their children.
The 42-year-old British filmmaker and Madonna will get together at
their former marital home in Wiltshire, with their children Rocco, 10,
and David, 6, Lourdes, 14, and 5-year-old Mercy.

I love Madonna, and her antics. I love that she's into yoga and has a
very strong practice, from what I understand. She knows that yoga can
keep you super fit and sane...which is probably why she was doing it in
the aisles! She's my hero. I'm sure the other passengers needed to
loosen up a little bit, but her leaving early was a sign of her huge
celebrity status. Go Madonna!

Yoga on a tightrope?
December 20th, 2010 | Author: Marne
-
One of the main differences between Jason Magness and the other people
who practice yoga at the Corniche beach is this: he performs his poses
on a nylon rope the width of a thumb and suspended two feet off the
ground.
Magness, and a group of like-minded "yogi-adventurers" dubbed the Yoga
Slackers, travel the world adventure racing and teaching slackline
yoga, a balancing sport that combines the concentration of yoga with
the challenge of tightrope walking.
Already in the Emirates to participate in the six-day Abu Dhabi
Adventure Challenge, the team was approached by the yoga instructor Amy
Ransom. She asked them to teach the basics of slackline yoga and
"acroyoga" to her students at Yoga Juice.
Slackline yoga teaches a mixture of acrobatic yoga and sitting and
holding stretches on the bouncy nylon rope.
The above was written by Megan Detrie, for more on this article go
here:
thenational.ae/news/uae-news/yoga-slackers-come-to-abu-dhabi
I like this idea! Although it doesn't seem very practical because you
have to tie a rope to something to get the rope in place. Your simple
yoga practice has more ease of use because you can plop down your yoga
mat just about anywhere; an office, a beach, a hotel room, your
house...I do like the ingenuity, however, and the practice looks
challenging. Do you think he does any inversion postures on the rope?

Free Diver Uses Yoga to Set New World Record
December 14th, 2010 | Author: Marne
- Kiwi William Trubridge put himself on autopilot and used
yoga techniques as he free-dived to a new world record of 100 metres in
the Bahamas.
The 30-year-old dived unassisted to reach the mark set in 1980 by
Jacques Mayol, whose exploits were featured in the film The Big Blue.
But whereas Mayol used a weighted sled to descend and an inflated lift
bag to return to the surface. Trubridge relied on his hands and feet to
propel him through the depths.
After breaking the 100m record yesterday - and his own record of 95m -
he said that he did not remember much of his dive, as he had been on
autopilot throughout.
"I'm doing that more and more," he said.
"It's the same as driving or washing the dishes, it becomes part of
your muscle memory, your subconscious. It means more efficient
movements and with your brain out of action it uses less oxygen.
"A lot of my techniques are taken from yoga practice. My mother Linda
is a yoga teacher and my wife Brittany has just become one too."

Yoga is great for eliciting an organic clearing of the mind. When
you're doing yoga you have to be completely focused on what you're
doing. When you get to more advanced stages of yoga, where some of the
more challenging poses come more easily, there's a meditative quality
to the physical postures. You "get into the zone" as it's often
referred to when you reach your peak potential. I think that's what
William is talking about when he says he used Yoga to help him get
there. You're in a meditative, calm, serene place, even though
intense physical activity is taking place.

Find other ZORGIUM pages: Enter your search keyword and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of
http://yahoo.com or http://bing.com
Due to an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms, we regret that Google seems to be unable to provide meaningful searches of the keyword Zorgium in combination with a secondary keyword search term at this time - We strongly recommend against the use of Google.
If you end up experiencing long delays before the content of this page is indexed by your search engine, you may need to change search engines. Adjust your browser's AZ toolbox and select option "YAHOO as Primary", or "BING as Primary."
ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
DISCLAIMER: Zorgium is a free world-wide-web engine from AZ.COM. You may use it, but by doing so you agree that your use of other people's information discovered via our website is entirely your responsibility. Enjoy!
